HOW TO OPEN A BANK ACCOUNT IN THE CHURCH'S NAME

You will have to write to the IRS, requesting an I.D. number. This is not a tax-exempt number, it's for with-holding purposes only for the people who work for your church, and who receive a salary. l want you to understand that there is no such thing as a tax-exempt number. Headquarters does not have a tax-exempt number. We have a with-holding number only, and this is only for the people who work at International Headquarters, who receive a salary. Here is what you need to do. Write your letter to the IRS State that you are applying for a withholding tax I.D. number. State that you have a Secretary and a Treasurer and give both of their names. State that you are Pastor of the congregation. You do have to give them the address where the meetings are held and your mailing address. Tell them that you are a congregation of the Universal Life Church International Headquarters at 601 Third Street, Modesto, CA 95351. Tell them that you are applying for your own I.D. number. In turn, they will send you a letter with an I.D. number on it. Take this letter and number to the bank where you wish to open your bank account. The bank will then allow you to open a bank account. I'm sure that if you understand what I have told you here, you will have no problem. If you are just a small church holding services in your home, you will never be bothered, or have any problems. If you have a building and hold regular church services, you will have no problem. I must tell you that if you run lots of money through the bank, under your I.D. number, that the IRS will probably look into your bank account. As long as you are doing things right, they will not look at you and you will not be bothered. I warn you, if this church is only on paper, and is not a real church, you are in big trouble! But, if you do it right, you will be one of the millions who have no problems whatsoever. Let me tell you some of the good things about having a church. It costs you $35. for the Congregational Agreement, and $5 a month to keep it active. This is what is important. But, just think. If you did one wedding a year in your church, that couple might give you $100 for that wedding. All kinds of people will donate to your church, since it is a church. You will notice that we have a whole page on fund-raising, but, I just wanted to remind you how important it is for you to do regular church work, and to have a regular church, If you become an Ambassador for the church, this is one of the most important things you should know and understand.
