Salvation is God's free gift to us, but we must receive it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works or religious effort. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin's penalty - and be delivered from spiritual death and enslavement by sin. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith, we are saved! ("born again"). Eternal life begins the moment a person, by repentance and faith, receives Jesus Christ, and we are secure in His salvation and His love forever. The evidence of salvation is a lifestyle of full devotion to the Lord. |
