ULC ministers are authorized by the church to perform all rites and ceremonies of the church. However at present, the status of ministers to officiate marriage in Canada is unclear. Marriage is both a civil contract and a spiritual rite, so the government does have authority to regulate this, even in free countries. Some ministers have reported being granted permission by the province, while others have been denied. The best thing to do is to check with the authority in your province which issues marriage licenses. Explain that you are a minister of a church in California and you wish to officiate a marriage in the province, and ask what is required. If you have further questions about this, they will be best directed to ULC Headquarters (generactcontact@ulchq.com) | |
